Having picky eaters on your hands may be frustrating at times, but it means your little ones are in the process of growing up and becoming more independent.

Is it normal?

Yes!! Picky eating tends to become more visible around the age of two. A certain color may throw kids off, the look of different meat or seeds can lose their interest, or they may just be stuck eating those same foods everyday. I promise you, this is all normal and it won’t last forever!

What do I do?

  1. Limit drinks at meal times: Kids will drink their entire calorie limit in juice and be full by time dinner hits the table. By limiting them to 6 ounces of juice and 24 ounces of milk a day, this may help increase their appetite at meal times.
  2. Family meals: Be a role model to your kids. They’ll be more willing to try new foods if they see you eating it as well, especially those who play important roles in their lives.
  3. Changing the way you serve foods: Believe it or not, the way you introduce food to children makes a huge impact on whether or not they eat it. Blending veggies in their pizza sauce or shaping their meals into fun designs is just a few examples of different ways you can change up the way you serve their meals.
  4. Repetition: Even if they don’t like something the first time they try it, don’t give up! Research shows it takes on estimate 10-15 times of a child trying new foods to develop a liking to it.

If your struggling with picky eaters, your not alone and it does get better! Be sure never to force your child to eat anything. By doing so, it can actually make their picky eating habits worse. Instead, offer their meals in bite sizes or make fun dinner designs.

“You do not like them.

So you say.

Try them! Try them!

And you may.”
